One of the best things about diagnostic imaging in general is that it is non-invasive and pain-free. In some cases, to get a clear picture for the X-rays, we may need to lightly sedate your pet to keep them still. However, we take great pains to ensure that your pet is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

When your pet needs diagnostic imaging, trust the experts at Middlesex Veterinary Hospital. We take your pet’s health seriously. With our team of highly qualified veterinarians by your side, you can help your pet thrive at every stage of life.

Diagnostic Imaging & Your Pet

Diagnostic imaging allows our veterinarians to see beyond your pet’s fur to get a better understanding of their health and current condition. While a nose-to-tail physical exam can tell us a lot about your pet’s health, there are certain things that we cannot assess with a simple physical exam. For example, broken bones, pregnancies, or damaged internal organs all require an advanced understanding of your pet’s condition that a physical exam just cannot satisfy. That is where diagnostic imaging comes in.

Radiology can help us see beyond your pet’s fur and get a better look at internal systems such as:
  • Internal organs

  • Veins and arteries

  • Bones

  • Muscles

One of the most common forms of radiology is the X-ray. X-rays work by using a small dose of radiation to take still images of your pet’s insides, specifically bones and other dense tissues. If your pet is pregnant or has certain other conditions, X-rays may not be the right kind of imaging for your pet due to the exposure to radiation.
